Ephesians 2:8 “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”
How has God changed under this new covenant? Well for starters, he adjusted to us by coming down and taking the form of man, living a perfect life and dying a sinner’s death on the cross. Jesus also ushered in the age of Grace, a time in church history when, unlike in Old Testament, old covenant times, punishment is not dished out immediately for disobedience. God no longer turns his back on his people. God withholds our penalties and instead allows us to find our way back to him through repentance and forgiveness under the blood of the cross. God has always been and will always be faithful to do his part under the covenant. His faithfulness does not depend on our own. Oftentimes we fail to see God’s faithfulness in action because he does things in ways that are beyond us. We look at circumstances and all we can see in our ‘unanswered’ prayers or unmet ‘expectations’. As our relationship grows with God, so does our trust. As our trust grows, we no longer rely on how things appear. Under the new covenant, we learn to trust in his unconditional love for us.
Pray: “Heavenly Father, it is embarrassing to think of the times I have judged you because you failed to meet my expectations. Your ways are not my ways. My perspective is so limited. When I trust in how things appear, I fail you. I am grateful that your grace covers me and all my mistakes. I am thankful for your patience with me. As I grow to understand your unconditional love more and more, I will learn to put my trust in that. Teach me to love as you do, teach me to trust in you, and teach me to trust in what I can’t see instead of what I do. In my brother’s name I humbly pray, Father – Amen.”
