Psalm 103:2-5 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.”
Back in 1965, the Rolling Stones released a single in the United States which would become their first number one hit. That song, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, could serve as an anthem for worldly living. Regardless of the carrot the devil is dangling before you, nothing in this world will ever bring complete satisfaction. People will never have enough pleasure, money, stuff etc. Satisfaction, that feeling of being full, of having enough, always eludes them. So what options do we have? Well, for those of us who put our trust in the Lord, who ‘abide’ in him, we have all we could ever want. We have forgiveness for our mistakes and failures, we have healing for our bodies and minds, we have redemption from a sin-debt that we could never pay, we have a constant outpouring of love and mercy, we have our strength renewed…and we have satisfaction. A sense of enough. Nothing missing, nothing broken. Shalom. The world cannot imitate it. The world cannot manufacture it. The world may promise it but will never deliver. Satisfaction can only be found in Christ.
Prayer: “Father, O how much time have I wasted trying to find things in this world to satisfy me! I now know that I can only have true fulfillment, a sense of enough, through my relationship with Jesus and you. Forgive my past vanity and keep me ever mindful that all I need can be found in you. In Jesus’ name - Amen.”
