Psalm 37:7 “Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.”
As David wrote this ‘wisdom psalm’ he included the secret that ties all of God’s promises together for us. Be still. Two small words with huge meaning. Be still. You can’t hear him over all the noise in your head or over your screaming at each other. Be still. If you are drowning he can’t rescue you if you are thrashing about. Be still. Protection is here so where are you running too? Be still and wait. Your answer is on its way, but will you be there when it arrives? Be still and wait. God wants to give you the best, but in your impatience are you going to settle for second best just so you can have it now? Be still and wait. He knows it’s not easy, but it’s necessary. Be still and wait patiently. God knows what he is doing. He does things on his timetable, not yours. You will never know just how many strings he has to pull, mountains he has to move, or streams he has to divert to bring you your answer…give him time to act. When you’re freaking out, there’s no room for God to come in and do his thing.
Pray: “Father, today I’m taking a deep breath and stepping back. I am emptying myself of all the noise, all the mess and all the worry. Today I promise to be still. To be still and listen. To be still and wait for you. Forgive my impatience. I want all that you have for me and I understand that means I have to wait for your time to receive it. With all that is in me I will patiently wait for you, Lord. By Jesus’ example and in the power of his name I pray - Amen.”
