John 6:66 “After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So Jesus said to the Twelve, ‘Do you want to go away as well?’ Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.’”

Ever hear the sheep around you grumbling? Isn’t it strange how even people who seem to have all they need can be so dissatisfied sometimes? If the world were to be believed, the richest people would be the happiest people and that is simply not the case. The children of Israel, while traveling through the Sinai desert, had all they needed and still found plenty to complain about. Sometimes, when climbing the mountain or trudging through those valleys, things are going to be less than ideal. Are you one of those sheep who see this as an opportunity to complain? Do you find yourself longing for ‘pastures of old’ when the journey to your new pasture is taking ‘too long’? Many of Jesus followers hung around when the miracles were happening and there were “free lunches”. But as soon as Jesus started talking about the cost of following him and showing them it wouldn’t all be an easy journey, those fair-weather sheep simply went looking for an easier way. Jesus asked those closest to him, “what about you?” Wisely they knew the cost of following him would pale beside the benefits of who their shepherd would be and where he would eventually lead them!

Pray: “Dear God, there is no place else to go and nobody else to lead us. Only your son knows the way to you. Only he has the words of eternal life. No one would ever care for us better than you. Nobody can do for us the things you can do. This world is full of empty promises and I will not be one of those who must have everything now. I will not settle for less than you. I will not believe the propaganda of the world. I have the real thing in you, Jesus. Thank you for leading me to the Father - Amen.”
