Psalm 139: 23-24a “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you…”

Sometimes we can blind ourselves to what is really going on within us. Some of us have been living certain areas of our life compromised for so long we are unable to distinguish what things should look like from what looks “normal” to us. It is for that reason that every believer needs to petition our Heavenly Father to search out those things in us that are wrong, those things that are displeasing to him, those things that hide themselves in the dark corners of our mind and subconscious and shine his holy light upon them – exposing them for what they really are. We need to realize and acknowledge that though sinning in our thoughts is perfectly safe from the eyes of others, it is not perfectly secret…for God knows every thought we have every time (Psalm 139:2). Nothing can be hidden from him. To pray this prayer is to ask God to reveal things about ourselves we might not like seeing or want to admit to. We must, therefore, openly accept what God shows us, offering no defense or excuse – simply seeking to expose all that is tied to sin and remove the world’s pollution from your mind and heart (James 1:27).

Pray: “Holy Lord, I sometimes worry about what you might find if I give you access to all that is in me. I know you see it already. Today I ask that you reveal anything that I cannot see with my own eyes – things hidden, things disguised, or things long residing that shouldn’t be there. Let nothing that offends you pass your notice. Help me, Father, to “clean house” so that there is nothing inside of me that might make me vulnerable to this world and its many traps and schemes. As always, I will put my trust in you alone. In the name of my Savior who sees that I never walk alone I pray – Amen.”
