Ephesians 5:15-16 “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”

What is the “best use” of our time? There is no limit to the number of distractions the world has provided for us on any given day. Distractions at home, distractions at work, even God’s house is not immune from distractions. As children of the Most High God, he would never ask us to settle for second-best. Though there may be many ‘good’ things for us to do, there is only one ‘best’ thing we can and should do. Reading God’s word is a good thing to do, but not when you’re at work and should be earning the salary they are paying. In that case, doing the best work you’re capable of will bring honor to your Heavenly Father and is what’s ‘best’. Volunteering to help the poor and needy is a good thing to do. But if you devote more time to doing that than you spend earning a living, you will not be able to pay your bills and that would not be ‘best’. Careful consideration and much prayer is the key to choosing the best use of your time at any given moment. The days are evil, and we can ill afford to waste any of our most precious commodity…time.

Prayer: “Father, I understand there can be only one “best” in every situation. In your wisdom, keep me from choosing something good over what is best. Teach me through the power of your Holy Spirit to recognize the best use of my time. Our times are urgent, Father, and I don’t want to fail you. The days for ‘good’ or ‘good enough’ are over. In Jesus’ matchless name I pray - Amen.”

I must confess that I read the daily devotional at work. It helps through the day. The morning at home is pretty busy and I prefer to read it whenever I have a break.

Today's devotional has been very helpful, I am ashamed to say that I spend more time watching tv or taking naps than with the Lord. I need to work on this and give more time to the ONE who gives me the time.

I appreciate all your effort in writing these devotionals!

Confession: I read the devotionals first thing in the morning after I get to work too! And sometimes again during lunch break or during periods when I don't have a class. I'm blessed if God reveals things to you through these but remember: with God there is NO condemnation for what we have done before (Romans 8:1)!
