Matthew 16:18b “…I WILL BUILD my church...”

I Corinthians 3:11 “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
While all buildings are not alike, almost all buildings do have certain things in common. For example, all structures began as an idea in the mind of the architect. He envisioned the size, shape and design of the structure before he ever picked up his drafting instruments. Next he uses a blueprint to ensure that those who would be doing the labor of construction would follow his plan exactly so that the finished structure exactly represents the architects design. Lastly, all buildings begin with a foundation. Buildings which are constructed upon the ground and not on a foundation will not be around long enough to be called a building. When Christ told the apostles that HE would build the church, he chose himself, the stone that the builders rejected (Psalm 118) to be the ‘cornerstone’ or foundation on which the church would be built. Only the house that is built on the rock will stand against the storms of life. It is not some membership committee, revival or sermon series that builds the church of Christ. Christ himself is the architect and builder, placing each person, each brick, into his church in exactly the right place as it pleases him.

Pray: “Lord Jesus, thank you for including me into the design of your holy church. I know that only you see the “big picture”, the final design. Help me to be happy in the place you have placed me, knowing that I will make the finished church, your body and bride, as beautiful and perfect as you created it to be. Remind me always Lord that I am but a laborer, you are the builder. In your blessed name I pray - Amen”
