Proverbs 3:5a “Trust in the Lord with all your heart;”

Relationships are one of the methods that God uses to grow our faith. The most important relationship of all, and the one that we must cultivate first, is our relationship with Him. Before we can benefit from a relationship, we have to have developed a level of trust in the other person. If there is no trust, we will not feel safe taking anything from the relationship. What we believe about the other person ultimately will determine the measure of our trust. If we believe they have our best interest at heart, our trust will be high. If we believe they are looking out for themselves, our trust will be limited and guarded. Belief always precedes trust. What we believe about God will determine how much we will profit from the relationship he wants with us. Sometimes, when our trust is limited, we “test” God by asking for things and then we set expectations on Him to gauge his trustworthiness. Since our perspective is limited (and only our hindsight is 20/20), often when God fails to meet our expectations it destroys our trust. But God never fails us. We fail to realize that everything he does brings us closer to our desired destination.

Pray: Dear Father, I want my relationship with you to be based on trust. If I look back, you have given me all the proof I need that you are indeed trustworthy. Help me to not let my expectations or limited vision destroy the trust you have earned and deserve. All it will do is rob me of what you are trying to bring me and where you are trying to take me. Through your Holy Spirit, help my believing, Lord. In my Savior’s name I pray – Amen
