2 Peter 3:18a “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

When a person accepts Christ and is “born again”, regardless of their physical age (which can span from very young to very old), their ‘spiritual age’ is that of an infant. Like infants, Christians are expected to grow…and keep growing. It was never God’s intention to merely forgive us and leave us trapped in a natural state which would see us fall over and over again. So, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we begin to change – and that change leads to growth towards maturity. Change and growth was never intended to be the exception but the expectation for the Christian. As we transform into the image of our Lord Jesus, we draw closer to the Father. But sometimes we get “stuck” – something either due to our own actions (or lack of action) or other circumstances causes us to stop growing. Think of a person who stops maturing when they are young…how do they appear to you when they are ‘old’ and still immature? That is not how we should want to be as ‘older’ Christians. Closer to God is greater peace, greater power, and greater blessings. Closer to God is greater victories over our enemy. Spinning your wheels will not get you there.

Pray: Lord God, getting stuck physically can be very frustrating. Being stuck spiritually carries much greater consequences. Help me to grow in my knowledge of you and your will for my life. Keep me from getting stuck by worldly things that will give the impression that I’m moving but are really nothing more than tires spinning uselessly. Lord, let my faith be the tread that allows me to keep traction on the solid rock that is my Lord and Savior Jesus, in whose holy name I send this prayer to you – Amen.
