John 2:5 “But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Often, getting stuck happens due to a half-hearted commitment on our part. We know what we want to achieve, where we want to go – but something causes us to hesitate, to hold back just a little…some tiny uncertainty or perhaps even a full-blown belief that we need to try even though ‘we’ll never make it’. This is frequently how the word of God is handled. It seems too good to be true. Some of the things that God says we are we have trouble believing. Some things he says we can do we just can’t quite see it. We take the matchless and perfect word of God and we reduce it to what we can perceive. The word of God won’t fit into our world view…it’s too big. It defies the laws of nature because it says the dead can be raised, we can be perfect, anything can be healed…it is not God’s promises and commands that are too small – it is our thinking. In the Bible, when people simply “did whatever” he told them, miracles followed. It is easier to see how a lack of commitment holds others back – not so easy to see it in ourselves. Small thinking will get you stuck big time…every time.

Pray: Lord God, expand my way of thinking today so that I do not set myself up to get stuck. Even if my believing is not where it needs to be, it doesn’t mean that I need to hesitate to obey what your word says. Obedience, even when belief is lacking can keep me from getting stuck and help to grow my faith. Father, teach me to stop reducing your word and begin expanding my mind. Today, Lord, I will do whatever you tell me to do. In Jesus blessed name I humbly ask it – Amen.

God really opened my eyes about this in my quiet time this morning. I've been hushing the voice of my conscience about a particular matter but trying to serve Him in every other area. It's gotten me stuck. He reminded me that my conscience is His voice. If I'm not going to listen to Him through that avenue, I can't expect him to speak in other ways. He will not speak if we are not willing to listen AND obey. It's so elementary, but throughout my walk, I find myself back at square one over and over again.

you're in good company. remember in the book of Revelations when the angel opened the letter to the church at Ephesus? they were doing so many good things and yet what was their issue? they had forgotten their "first" love. they needed to go back to square one because they had forgotten what is at the root of all we do as Christians...love. We are obedient because we love Him, not because of what is in it for us or because of what might happen if we don't. we all find it easier in some things than at others...sometimes, we just need to go back to the beginning so we don't forget why we started the journey in the first place. you're not alone, Pam! Blessings...
