Psalm 91:1 “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
As Moses wrote down these words, he was speaking from the perspective of a life lived amid the conditions and promises of Shaddai, our Lord God Almighty. Moses understood from his close relationship with the Lord that as he met the conditions set by the Lord, promises would be fulfilled. As we face the battles of every day living, we often find ourselves in desperate need of a break, a time out, a cease fire if you will. But our enemy seems unrelenting. Moses understood this. Called from a far off desert to challenge the most powerful ruler in the known world and demand the release of God’s people, he knew pressure. Once out of Egypt, everyone looked to him for answers. When things went wrong, Moses was the complaint department. Moses knew where to find rest though. He had spent enough time in the presence of the Lord to realize that in that close proximity was safety and rest from the storm. Nothing has changed. But we can’t find rest if we only ‘visit’ the Lord. When we live, dwell, abide, stay in the place where God is, it is then that we have the chance to ‘take a load off’.
Pray: “Lord God, thank you that you love me so much it is your desire that I dwell with you. Forgive my too infrequent visits. Under your wing, in your shadow is the place where I can find rest. The eye of my storm is where you are. If I only visit, there is no time for rest. If I stay with you, remain close, I can close my eyes and set my burden down. I know you have room for me, a place that is all my own. With you is where I want to be. Thank you, Father, in Jesus’ name - Amen.”
