Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
Far too often our scope of the world is limited to our own small circle. We rarely think of ourselves on so grand a scale as affecting “nations”. When Jesus issued his “great commission” to his followers, a group to which the church today is included, it was obvious that his intention was for us to give “feet” to the gospel. The word ‘commission’ means having ‘authority to act on behalf of another’ or ‘a task or matter entrusted to one as an agent for another.’ Jesus has not only given us authority to continue his ministry here on earth, but he has “entrusted” it to us. He is counting on us to perform it. Unlike the apostles and the first century church, we have tools they couldn’t even have imagined to aid us. Television, satellites, cellular technology and the internet has made reaching the world a reality in our lifetimes. Many of us haven’t even begun to consider how many we could reach with the good news of what God has done for each of us. If Jesus has made a difference in your life, he is trusting you to make a difference in someone else’s by sharing his story.
Pray: Lord Jesus, give me the vision you have for me in reaching the nations. I would never dream of anything on such a grand scale but that doesn’t mean that you are not prepared to send me into my great unknown. Whatever my part in sharing you, help me to not miss any opportunities that come my way. In your blessed name I pray - Amen.”
