Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
It has been said that the father of every action is a thought. We know that what we believe to be true becomes our reality. Our thoughts about that reality will determine how we act, when we act, and why we act. We know that we can, and should, take all thoughts captive to Christ. It is important to understand the connection between thought and action because while we can control what we think about (those things we choose to dwell on, meditate about, and ponder over), we do not get to choose where it takes us! That is why it is so important to guard our minds. Only godly thoughts can take us to godly places. Worldly thoughts can never lead us to God. Our emotional responses to what we think not only color our actions but also determine how others will respond (or tend to respond) to us. Wrong thinking leads to wrong choices/actions which draws worldly people and alienates us from those on a godly path. We’ve all made some wrong choices. The good news is, we are not bound by past thoughts/choices. We are always only one thought away from turning our situation and direction around!
Prayer: Lord God, thank you that I can, at any time, choose to think those thoughts that will change the direction and course of my life. Help me to so fill my life with thoughts of you, your word, and your love for me that there isn’t room for distractions to come in and get me ‘off course’ again. Carve your words into the tablets of my heart because if what I think ultimately leads to who I am, I want to only think those things that reflect how you see me…how I was created to be - In Jesus’ name I thank you - Amen.”
