Psalm 91:14-15 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honour him.”

Our Heavenly Father has given us two reasons why he is willing to be protector, refuge, fortress, shield and buckler, and defender for us. His willingness to act on our behalf is that we ‘know his name’ and because we ‘hold fast to him in love.’ When taken together, this paints a much deeper picture of the kind of relationship God wants with us. If we are holding onto God in love (not in fear or desperation) than that means we not only ‘know’ him but know him intimately. We don’t run to people we don’t know or don’t care about - we have no reason to believe we will get help from them. But when we go to God, because we know how he feels about us and because we love him for all he has done, he is prepared to deliver us, protect us, answer our call, rescue us, and even to honor us! Isn’t that what humans do for those they love? God wants us to know him, not just know of him. He wants us to love him for the great love he has shown us. He has promised to do his part. Are you ready to do your part?

Prayer: “Lord, forgive me all those times I ran to you in fear and not in love. I understand that if I truly believe you love me the way you’ve told me in your word you do, than I will run to you because I know that your great love is what motivates you to be my protector and my help in time of trouble. You, who are love, want me to be motivated by the same thing that motivates you. Lord, help me have that intimate relationship with you. Let my motives be right. I’m ready to sign my name below yours in this contract of love. In Jesus name I ask these things - Amen.” Attachment
