John 3:30 ”He must increase, but I must decrease.”
When John the Baptist said this, he was declaring not only the lordship and dominion of Christ, but the realization that, in the presence of the Lord, it is necessary that we step down, bow down. God can never become more God; he cannot become more powerful, more knowing, more loving or more present. We, on the other hand, have spent a good portion of our lives developing a strong self image and seeking those things which please us. All of our lives had been spent in service to ourselves - our goals, dreams, and ambitions all for the glory of self. When we accepted Jesus as Lord, we mentally bowed before him. Perhaps at the time we even physically were on our knees. But a Lord that is always present but never seen is a Lord easy to forget. Our way of thinking must change. Our goals dreams and desires must decrease, to be replaced by his goals, dreams and desires for our life. Our final act of worship is more than just what we do for our Lord…it is the humbling and surrender of self that raises him up and glorified him in our lives.
Pray: Dear Father, you cannot become greater than you are already. I, on the other hand, have plenty of room to change the high opinion I have of myself and humble myself before you. Lord, I willingly give up all that I once wanted for me, ready to accept all that you have ordained for me to have. I ask that you help me make my vision for myself the image of the vision you had when you created me. Help me to become transparent, that all that I do will reflect the glory that is owed to you and you alone. Thank you, Lord, in Jesus’ name I pray – Amen.
