Psalm 46:10 ”Be still and know that I am God.”

Have you ever wondered where the phrase “make a mountain out of a mole hill” came from? Whoever coined the phrase was a keen observer of human behavior. Sometimes it seems like the smallest of things can trip us up. One little thing goes wrong and suddenly the world is collapsing. One unexpected cough and we are rushing to the doctor expecting some earth-shattering report of some exotic and probably fatal disease. One minute you are going along perfectly content in your own little world – suddenly, something inexplicable happens…and you are left unsure of things that just a moment ago you were sure of. And behind it all the devil, whispering little words of doubt and fear is laughing as you become more and more agitated until, before you know it, you have worked yourself into a frenzy! Has this ever happened to you? It would be surprising if at one time or another it hasn’t. When the ground beneath your feet suddenly doesn’t feel so stable, God’s word comes back to us…”be still”…”don’t panic”…you know that I am God. I’ve got this. God will reach out to you through your nervousness and fear of the unknown or the unexplainable and say: “trust me” – and you can.

Pray: Dear Father, thank you for cutting through all the doubt and noise inside my head to remind me, each day, that I have nothing to fear. Today, as my day begins, I will be still, so that you can reveal to me things that I do not know, and fill me with your peace regarding things I can as yet not understand. I know that you are God – and it is my comfort and my strength every day. Thank you, Lord, in my Savior’s name I pray – Amen.
