John 16: 33 “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Ever wish you could turn the world off for just a second? Ever imagine stopping all the thoughts bombarding your head, the noise constantly ringing in your ears, the growing lists of things to do, the endless demands for time, money, and attention? Well you can’t…that is the simple truth. There is, however, always an “eye of the storm”. It is found ‘in’ Christ. Whenever we have control of our lives, we are out in the storm, battling the turbulent winds, trying to hold back the rising seas and seeking shelter from the flashing lightning and the dangerous debris (of our lives and others) threatening us at every turn. Who would choose to willingly battle the storm (and our Lord does promise that those storms will come) when our blessed Lord has already spoken a place of calm into your life (much like he did for the Apostles on the Sea of Galilee)? When his disciples (some of whom were fisherman) thought they were going to die, where was Jesus? Sleeping. Not worried in the least. It is that kind of peace that Jesus offers us when the storms of life come our way. Abiding ‘in him’ is our safe port.
Prayer: “Heavenly Father, let the peace that is found through your Holy Spirit fill me today. There is no battle today I have to fight that my Lord, your Son, has not already won for me. In the face of all that is going on around me, I accept your offer of peace, the peace that passes all understanding. Thank you, Father, for creating the eye of the storm for me…in Jesus’ victorious name I pray - Amen.”
