John 12:17-18 “The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness (spread the word). The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.”
People’s natural curiosity is an amazing thing. If they even suspect something, most people are drawn to investigate. An old shampoo commercial explains this phenomenon quite well. Someone tries the product and then they tell “two friends” who then tell “two friends…and so on, and so on, and so on” as the number of images on the screen multiplies and multiplies. A rumor does not even have to be true in order to get people to respond to it! All it has to do is be voiced by enough people so that it becomes a “buzz”! Look at the incredible number of “gossip” magazines at the grocery checkout! How people love to talk! Now gossip is the evil side of “spreading the word”, but it works the same as the side that can help see the gospel reach all people and all nations. If enough people are talking about it, others will come to check it out. “Someone got raised from the dead?” “And the guy that did it was the same one that healed that paralyzed guy wasn’t it?” “I heard he restored sight to a man blind from birth.” “He’s out in the countryside now? We gotta go check this out!” It’s just that simple.
Pray: “Lord God, I know the power of gossip – it’s everywhere in the world. I never realized that if enough of us will simply talk about the things that your Son has done for us…even just one thing…it would begin a “buzz” that would draw attention to him. You have done so much for me, Father – let the “buzz” begin with me - in Jesus holy name I pray - Amen.”
