2 Corinthians4:4a “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News.”
If you have ever wondered why it is so easy for believers to become ‘blinded’ to all they have to be thankful for, it is because we have an enemy in this world, a very cunning and deceitful enemy, who takes every opportunity to draw our attentions to those things that appear to be failures on God’s part. Whenever plans fall through, whenever something terrible happens, whenever darkness descends he is right there to make sure you see it. The devil is very good at hiding those things that all of us, even unbelievers, have to be thankful for. It is not a physical blindness but a mental blindness…an inability (or sometimes an unwillingness) to turn your eyes away from the bad before you. Everything else seems to fade into the background as the enemy draws your focus again and again to the trouble at hand. You, who have the light of salvation within you, can find yourself in a type of ‘mental darkness’. Thankfulness for God’s light within you will dispel the darkness. Singing songs of praise to your God will shatter the illusion of darkness, danger and despair. You can always be thankful you are not alone in the darkness.
Pray: “Father God, no matter how hard the enemy tries today to get me to focus on what is wrong, I will give you thanks and praise for all that is right in my life. I will not allow him to control where my eyes fall or what my mind chooses to think on. Thank you, Father, for the light that dispels my blindness. In Jesus’ priceless name – Amen.”
