John 8:12 “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Is it really possible to never walk in darkness? Jesus said it was. And yet everywhere we go in this world it seems like darkness is prevalent - in our homes, in our work places, in our schools, and even sometimes in the Lord’s house. People see so much negative in the world that darkness can creep into our thoughts…sometimes into our hearts. So how then can our Lord tell us that if we follow him we will never walk in darkness? Because he is the ‘bright and morning star’ and his way is the way of light. Darkness cannot come close to him because his light is the power of the Almighty. Lies, deceit and the false ways of the world cannot stand in the presence of truth. The nearer we draw to our Savior, the farther from the reach of darkness we become. As the light of his way becomes part of our life, filling us, we become the light. Even if we attempt to draw near to darkness, the fact that we radiate the light of God from within pushes the darkness away with each step we take. Once we have accepted his way, we need never walk in darkness again!

Pray: “Heavenly Father, I have spent so much of my life trying to find my way out of the darkness. Now that your son has showed me the way, I am grateful that the light he has brought into my heart keeps the darkness at bay. Lord, let my light so shine that it reaches to those who, like me, are trying to find their way out of the darkness. In Jesus name, Lord, thank you – Amen
