Ecclesiastes 2:17 “So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
Have you ever felt like you were just spinning your wheels? Moving a 100 mph and going nowhere fast? Solomon knew what it felt like to chase the wind, pursuing something that can never be caught. Why did Solomon hate life? What was so ‘meaningless’ about life that had the world’s wisest man despondent? He realized that the day to day routine of our lives ultimately leads to nothing. Whatever was gained would eventually be lost or belong to someone else. The constant, repetitive act of living in our scheduled, cyclical lives led to ruts, ruts that would eventually steal the dreams and visions that God had put in our hearts. What is it that makes life worth living - that keeps the excitement alive for us? When we have a vision, something to look forward to, something we are striving for, it brings the thrill of the chase, it pulls us from our routines with a renewed sense of vitality. Purpose is the adrenaline that launches your life out of its rut. God’s vision for your life gives you strength to keep climbing when the road gets steep. It turns weariness to determination. It keeps you in the race!
Pray: “Lord God, some days it’s just plain hard to find reasons to get out of bed. Some weeks it seems like everything is on auto-pilot and I’m not even needed to steer. God, give me your sense of purpose for my life. Pull me out of my routine by throwing me into the fray, infuse me with a vision that I can pursue my whole life. Give me my assignment, Lord, and turn me loose. In Jesus’ powerful name I pray - Amen.”
