Acts 8:30-31,35 “So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ And he said, ‘How can I, unless someone guides me?’…Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.”
Stop and think about it - we have all had instances when we’ve come upon people or walked within earshot of conversations only to hear a certain word or two that catches our ears like “God” or “church” or “believe”. Perhaps you’ve even heard someone exclaim in frustration or worry “Why me, God?” or “God help me!” Did you recognize these opportunities like Philip did? They are open doors to step up and tell people “I remember how he helped me!” or “Do you really think God is doing this to you?” Too often we miss these chances to introduce others to the one who has all the answers to whatever is troubling them. There need not be any fear that we will have to solve anything! Acting as a guide does not mean you have to become the spiritual mentor or teacher for the individual. Sometimes, all you need to do is guide them to the right place (church) or the right person (pastor) who can then guide them further. We have all walked a portion of the road that leads to salvation. People who are standing at the crossroads just need someone to say “this way”. The Lord will do the rest.
Pray: “Lord, I know there are times you have brought people across my path and given me the opportunity to “guide” them to you. Forgive me those missed chances. Help me to recognize those cues to step in and give me the boldness to introduce them to you. I trust you will know what to do from there. Thank you, Father, in Jesus’ blessed name I pray - Amen”
