John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Like any great leader, Jesus did not simply point in a direction and tell his followers “go that way”. He led the way. He spoke truth about the world in which they lived and the spiritual world which they could not yet see. He didn’t just say “this is how things should be done” but rather he showed them, daily. He kept them focused on the road ahead. The world offers the believer many different paths to choose, many roads it claims all lead to the same place. The saying in Jesus’ time was “all roads lead to Rome”. Physically, this was most nearly true. So it is easy to be led astray by this “many roads” idea. But Jesus left no room for his followers to doubt. He told them it was his way only if they were to reach their destination…the Father. His way offers truth. His way offers life. Countless people in the world today are ‘alive’ but not living life. Each day is more an exercise in survival then real living. Life is what Jesus offers, a part of the vision he has for his followers. It is neither a life of ease nor a life of excessive hardship – it is a life of complete fulfillment.

Pray: “Heavenly Father, your Son has shown me the way to you. It is not mysterious but it is challenging. It is not impossible, but at times uphill. It is not strange, but at times unfamiliar. He has given me his word, his strength, and his life to follow. Let it be my spiritual GPS that guides me unerringly to you. In Jesus’ most holy name I pray – Amen.
