Psalm 10:1 “O Lord, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?”

When trouble comes knocking on your door, or kicks it in, it is not uncommon for people’s first reaction to be “God where were you?” Whether you are a believer or someone who never thinks of God except in circumstances like these, the first instinct is to try and understand “why”. Some events in life seemingly make no sense no matter what angle you look at them. Oftentimes, even if we are able to come up with a plausible reason “why”, it does little to comfort us when we are still locked in the middle of a struggle or overcome with grief. Though the Lord has promised to never leave us or forsake us, when we cannot see him through the overwhelming nature of our circumstances, the adversary whispers words of doubt. Doubt as to God’s provision, doubt as to his love for you, doubt as to his caring for you at all. When faith is small, it doesn’t take much to convince someone that God has abandoned them. It is at times like this that God will bring someone into your life to remind you of all the things you either have forgotten or perhaps never knew.

Pray: “Dear Father, today I ignore all the circumstances and false words that would have me believe that you abandon me when times are rough. You will neither leave me nor forsake me. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. My Lord sticks closer to me than a brother. You are my rock and my fortress. On these promises, on your promises, I will build my faith. Thank you for laying the foundation for me, Father, and for sending the trials which allow me to build it. In Jesus’ matchless name I claim it – Amen.”
