Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
We know that God has established a set number of days for our lives (Acts 17:26). Even the devil has a set amount of time prescribed to him (Rev. 12:12)! But we don’t know exactly how long we have. That is why we must look to the Father for wisdom in knowing how best to use whatever time is given to us. Our time is set. We can do nothing to add even an hour to that time. That is why it is so important to not waste our time on things that have no value. God expects us to be good stewards of all that he has given us. This doesn’t just apply to things but also to time. People who learn they have only a few months to live have little trouble removing all of life’s “clutter” and spending each precious moment doing something with meaning, something with purpose, something that will last beyond the moment. We might be in the same position as them (only without the benefit of a diagnosis). We are not promised tomorrow. We cannot afford to wait even one more day. Today let’s remove the clutter from our lives and begin living purposefully.
Prayer: “Heavenly Father, although I don’t know what tomorrow brings, I know my time is precious. Help me realize how brief life is, and use the wisdom that comes from you to make the most of the time you have allotted to me. In that wisdom, guide me in removing all the meaningless clutter that steals so much of my time and so order my days to maximize my joy in seeing your purpose for me fulfilled - in Jesus’ name I pray – Amen”
