John 15:5-8,11 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides I me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples...These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”

What does it mean to “abide in Christ”? The word abide can mean “to wait for”, “to accept without objection” and “to remain stable or fixed in a place”. Each of these definitions is a key part of what our relationship to Christ should be. Imagine entering the presence of Christ. Suddenly all the cares of the world disappear. He offers you a seat in a big, comfortable chair so you will feel at ease and at home. You see, there are some problems you are facing that will take a while to work out so you will have to “wait” for him to handle them. He wants to offer you the hospitality of his heavenly home where all needs can be met, everything provided for. All we need to do is “accept” what he offers. Lastly, he wants you to feel like this place is yours because it is his desire that you “remain” with him. Why? Because he loves you. Because abiding with him is your source for protection, wisdom and guidance. Because everything you could ever desire or need can be found in him. You are his joy, and his fountain of living water will fill us with joy to overflowing.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, it is my desire to ‘sit’ in your presence, to abide with you where you are, to find shelter from my life’s storms, to gain understanding and answers to all my questions, and to receive all that you have set aside for me in your heavenly home. I humbly come before you today, Lord, and seek your face. In your presence I will make my home…in your presence I will seek my joy. Thank you, Lord, for having a place for me - Amen.”
