John 4:39 “Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony.”
Sometimes one person can have a mighty influence. Sometimes it just takes someone who is willing to talk…and talk…and talk! Jesus knew who would be coming to the well to draw water. He knew her past and he knew who she knew. I’m certain that Jesus didn’t choose her for her shyness. I’m sure that she wasn’t the one blessed to meet him because of her quiet and demure demeanor. The woman had 5 husbands and was currently living with a man she was not married to. Certainly this was a woman who was no stranger to gossip (or likely being gossiped about)! Notice it doesn’t say that the woman was “silver-tongued” or a great public speaker or salesman. It doesn’t say she was well liked or even had a high or visible position within the town. All we know is she went back to town armed with a “testimony”. And what was that testimony? Simply those things the Lord shared with her! Nothing more than a few words exchanged at a well was enough to get them to come “find out for themselves”. And what happened next? They heard for themselves and believed (v 42)!
Pray: “Lord Jesus, help me to remember that nothing complicated is needed for me to get people to come and see for themselves what you can be to them. Help me to remember those things that brought me to you and to use those to encourage others to come. You know who I am best suited to reach and will not put me someplace where I am not capable. I trust in you for this. Give me the words to accomplish your purpose…In your name, Lord, I ask - Amen.”
