Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
You live in an emotion-driven world. Advertising and the media does all it can to inundate you with images and ideas until everyone is living on the verge of sensory overload. All of this is designed to stir our passions, our emotions, and drive us in the direction ‘they’ want us to travel. It forces upon us standards and ideals, ways of thinking about and viewing ourselves. Unfortunately, you will never be able to conform to these images – they are always just beyond your grasp. But the world makes you believe they are attainable so that you continue ‘chasing your tail’. You are called to walk in wisdom, not be ruled by emotions. Your mind is not to follow worldly patterns but is to be renewed to God’s word. This concept of renewing means it must be done anew every day. Putting on your helmet is symbolic of putting on the mind of Christ. This helmet you don every morning reminds you that you are not what you feel (like the world would have you believe) but rather what God through Christ has made you – an heir of the kingdom, rulers and conquerors in this world!
Pray: “Father God, the enemy has set up a system in this world designed to cater to and play on my emotions. If I allow it, it can and will distort how I see myself and will lead me into condemnation, depression and despair. Therefore, I will put on the helmet you have given me every day, so that I am reminded of who I am in you, regardless of how I feel. A prince or princess is still a prince or princess whether they feel like one or not! Jesus, help me today to put on your mind…your thoughts. In your holy and precious name I pray – Amen”
