Psalm 23:5c “…my cup overflows…”

Malachi 3:10 “’Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this’, says the Lord Almighty,’ and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.’”

Most people do not understand the concept of abundance. All around you are people who live their lives trying to meet their needs. When the economy is good, they don’t have to work as much, when it is bad, they have to work hard just to get the basics. The Lord our shepherd understands the concept of abundance. With the limitless resources of heaven at his disposal, only he can give us such blessings that we can’t contain them all! That is an overflowing cup. Not overflowing in the sense of waste, but overflowing so that we can be a blessing to others. We follow a God who does exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or think (Eph 3:20). Our shepherd does far more than just meet our needs. He wants the best for us. He sees to it that we are able to extend those blessings to others. Whether it is financial, relational, health or joy, the sheep of the Lord’s pasture don’t live lives of ‘just enough’. Their lives are lived in the pasture of ‘more than enough’. That is so we can reach out to those sheep who are starving in the world’s pasture of ‘not enough’.

Pray: “Dear Shepherd God, you have given me more than I need. Everywhere around me I see sheep in other pastures – starving, uncared for, and miserable. You have given me an abundance in so many areas of my life. Help me to take the overflow which you have blessed me with and become a blessing to others. I know there is always room in your flock for another. Lord, never let me forget that I am privileged to live in your pastures of ‘more than enough’. In Jesus blessed name I thank you - Amen.”
