Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Ask anyone what it is they want, what it is that would make them the happiest and they are able to answer without hesitation. All of us know what the desires of our heart are. Most people spend their entire lives chasing after that dream or desire, doing whatever they think it will take to bring them that ever-elusive feeling of nirvana or that little piece of utopia. Even when they think they are getting close, it always seems to be just out of reach. The secret to getting your hearts desire is in not pursuing it! You see, God wants to give it to you. He already knows what it is that would bring your heart its greatest joy, the ultimate satisfaction. All that he requires in exchange is that you ‘delight’ yourself in him. In short, he wants us to find our “extreme satisfaction” in him, not in the thing we are pursuing. But how exactly do we do that? In order to delight in the Lord, we must forget choosing our own way and seeking our own pleasure and instead agree to go his way and finding our pleasure in doing his will. His way = desires received.
Pray: “Lord God, although it seems strange to my human mind, I understand that to get the desires of my heart I don’t need to pursue them like the world tells me. By pursuing you, even if it seems contrary to getting where I want to go, you promise to give me the desires of my heart. Yesterday I learned to trust you. Today Lord, I thank you for loving me enough to give me the desires of my heart just for finding my satisfaction in going your way. In my Savior’s matchless name I thank you, Father - Amen.”
