Psalm 22:3-5 “Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.”
Remembering is important to God.
It was also an important lesson he taught to the children of Israel. When God won great victories or delivered his people, they would often set up stones or altars to act as a memorial to what the Lord did in that place. He would instruct them that, when their children asked what the memorial was, they would relate the story so that it would not be forgotten. God even placed a rainbow in the sky to remind himself of his promise to never again destroy the world with flood waters! But why is remembering so important? God certainly isn’t diminished if you forget something he has done for you. In fact much of what God does goes unnoticed in our lives. The reason remembering is so important is because in each and every one of our lives times of trial will come. And it is the memories of God’s past deliverances and his past help that will remind us we have nothing to fear in our current situation. Carve it on the doorposts of your house. Keep it before your eyes. Engrave it on the tablets of your heart. Never forget all the Lord has done for you!
Pray: Lord God, as I look back over my life, there are so many times you have rescued me. So many times all seemed hopeless or lost and you came through. Help me to remember those times as each new trial comes along, knowing it is just one more opportunity for you to show your mighty power and your great love for me. In my Savior’s matchless name I pray - Amen.”
