Hebrews 7:24-26 “But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.”

I Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Jesus only had to die once to pay the sin-debt that we would accumulate over our lifetimes. Still, because we fail (and sometimes fail often), we continue to need Jesus in his role as our intercessor. He has been given the seat of greatest honor in all of heaven, at the right hand of God our Father. There he sits because his work of salvation is already done. There he sits where he can speak to the Father intimately on our behalf. He brings our prayers to his attention. He makes sure all our transgressions are covered because nothing escapes the eye of Almighty God. Jesus acts as our mediator, bridging the gap each time we turn away or fall away due to sin. He continues, as our great High Priest, to represent us to the Father. He is our advocate. He understands our failings because he lived as a man. He has met the demands of justice. The words spoken on the cross by Christ often translated “It is finished” is the same as the words stamped on legal documents which signified “paid in full”. Because of his great love for us, he continues, even now, to petition the Father on our behalf!

Pray: “Lord God, thank you for honoring our Savior and High Priest with a seat at your right hand. Truly our Lord is worthy of all glory and honor both in heaven and on earth. I am grateful because I know that he intercedes for me. I know that he brings my prayers and petitions before you. You do not turn him away or deny him what he asks. He has made it so that I can once again connect with you but I still do not always know how to do that. Thank you for allowing him to act as advocate on my behalf until that day I stand before you in the body for which you originally created me and can worship and praise you before your throne. In Jesus holy name I thank you – Amen”
