Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”
In life we have both discretionary and non-discretionary time. There are things that we must do and things that we like to do. Without a vision, it is a natural tendency to fill up too much of our time with the “like-to-dos” and try to cram in as many of the “must-dos” as we can in the time remaining. Ultimately, this leads to crisis and disaster. We must assess what is truly important and valuable to us and develop a vision for those. Part of that vision should include factoring God into each of those areas of life, whether it is career, family, relationships or anything else. As we become more ‘God-focused’, understanding God’s role and place in each of these areas of our life, our vision will become less self-focused and more kingdom-focused. When a vision is clear, purpose comes more into focus. Instead of going through life mindlessly trudging through rut after rut, we face each new day, each new challenge with a sense of progressing towards something bigger - something God-ordained. Keep in mind, those who do the most good in this world are the ones who have their minds in another world!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I shudder to think of all the time I have wasted on things that, in the big scheme of things, have little or no value. I have neglected the “big” things in my life for too long. Help me, Lord, to first factor you into my job, my relationships, and every other area of my life. Then, help me to keep the “main things” the main things and not allow life’s ‘fillers’ to become the substance of my days. Thank you, Lord, for giving me a vision. In your holy name I pray - Amen.”
