Psalm 77:9-12 “Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion? Then I said, ‘I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.’ I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.”

It is often necessary, if we are to get through the ugly and troubled times of today for us to remember times past. It is necessary for us to recall those times in the past when God came to our rescue and delivered us. God never intended for us to face each trial as though we were learning his faithfulness anew. As we move forward, we leave behind us evidence of God’s care and deliverance. We have memories that serve as memorial stones of past victories the Lord has won for us. These are intended to serve us in times when darkness and ugliness cause us to wonder about our future or the provision of our Heavenly Father. When we remember God’s faithfulness in times past, it is easy, in fact easier, to trust in his faithfulness today. God places great importance on remembering. It is what builds us up. It is the past acts of God that inform our life in the present. It is what enables us to trust him when we must trust in nothing else. This trust is the very foundation of our thankfulness. We can thank God for the victory yet to come because we find thankfulness in the memories of victories past.

Pray: “Dear Lord, let me find thankfulness in my memories of your past mercies when the present seems dark. Your faithfulness is a comfort to me and there is no other in whom I can hope to trust. Thank you, Lord, that your past faithfulness teaches me faithfulness for the days to come. In Jesus name, it is you I trust - Amen.”
