Deuteronomy 1:32-33 “In spite of this, you did not trust in the Lord your God, who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go.”
When the Israelites left slavery in Egypt, they had no idea how far their journey to the Promised Land would be. God’s chosen people were probably in a bit of a hurry to vacate the lands of Egypt and put as much distance between them and their enemy as possible. Every delay would have had them looking over their shoulders just in time to seen Pharaoh’s pursuing army closing in on them. Surely at this point they would have questioned the wisdom of all those “camp stops” God had arranged as they left and began their journey through the Sinai desert. Despite all he had already done, they still did not have faith and trust in God. God knew that if he got them out of Egypt they would always be looking over their shoulders unless he did something about the Egyptian army. So he delayed them just long enough for the ‘showdown’ at the Red Sea. The timing was perfect. The Israelites would cross the sea just ahead of the advancing army and God would be able to eliminate any reason for them to look back. Just like on your journey now, God has it covered…all of it.
Pray: “Dear Lord, Guide me, Lord, as you did your chosen people across the wilderness to the Promised Land. You have given me a dream, Father – a promise of things to come. I will trust you as they didn’t, going when you say go, stopping to camp when you say stop. I believe you go before me to make sure your plans come to pass. Thank you, Lord, for caring enough to see me through to the end. In Jesus mighty name I pray - Amen.”
